“Signal Books is the smartest and most stylish of travel publishers . . . Signal’s learned but lively series outperforms other guides for both depth and flair.” —Independent
“A series of companions that shame the shelves of greedy guide books.”—Guardian
Welcome to the Signal Books website, where you can find information on all our titles. Based in Oxford, England, Signal is an independent publisher specialising in the fields of travel, history, religion, philosophy, biography and current affairs. We are pleased to announce a new series, Innercities Cultural Guides, that offers concise cultural city guides in the format of a £9.99 paperback.
Recent praise for our travel books includes this from the Times Literary Supplement: “The Ionian Islands and Epirus is an important book that will kindle new research and thinking on the political and literary history of the region.” Reviewing Our Man in Paris, the Independent had this to say: “When a foreign correspondent takes up a new posting, he or she starts by diligently following the national media, going to every press conference that is listed, befriending people who might be in any way useful. . . What takes longer to acquire and is more valuable is the knowledge that comes from the experience of everyday life. That is what gives depth to the work of John Lichfield.”
Moving beyond travel, Signal has published its first work of fiction—Divinity Road, which narrates the stories of four individuals from war-torn Africa to suburban Oxford. Literary website curiousbookfans.co.uk has hailed it as a “thoroughly enjoyable and very rewarding read. Pevsner really is a writer to put on your watch list if this multi-dimensional tour de force is anything to go by.”

TRAVELS IN BLOOD AND HONEY
“Enthralling... a hugely affectionate picture of the everyday lives of ordinary Kosovans and a wonderful evocation of a place that most of us know so little about. Food, above all honey, is the key that unlocks the doors between cultures. And I have every intention of trying some of the recipes.” —Sophie Grigson |
